Survey on “The District I want to Live Most (Osaka & Hyogo)”
◆ Main Findings of the Survey
1. “Convenience” and “reputation” considered most important in determining preferred residential district
We interviewed residents living in Osaka and Hyogo Prefecture which railway station they most want to live near. The most popular was Umeda Station.
Main reasons for selecting Umeda was “convenient public transport”, “trendy” and “variety of restaurants”.
Ranked no.2 to no.4 were stations in Hyogo Prefecture. It may be the character of Kobe residents that Ashiyagawa (no.2) was chosen because of “high-class image”. For Nishinomiya-kitaguchi (no.3) and Sannomiya (no.4), many chose them for “trendy” and “availability of commercial facilities”.
2. “Sense of security” and “convenient transportation” were considered important for choosing a place to live
When choosing where to live, “sense of security” and “convenient transportation” were considered the most important. When choosing which station to live near, respondents suggested reasons such as “trendy” or “commercial facilities”, but when they consider the practicalities of daily life, they put more emphasis on convenience and security.
3. Usage of Real Estate Information Websites
Regarding real estate websites, we asked the respondents whether they know of the site and whether they have used it.
“SUUMO” was ranked no.1 for both recognition and usage. No. 2 was “HOME’S” and no.3 “AT HOME”.

【Main Points of Survey Results】
1. Moderately priced and ready-to-use items are popular gifts to neighbors after moving to a new home
We surveyed residents of the Greater Tokyo Area about their gifts to new neighbors after moving to a new home.
The 3 most popular gifts were towels, confections and detergents.
Most people chose items which are useful in daily life and easily carried around.
2. Compared to the older generation, more young people consider greeting new neighbors unnecessary
Looking at respondents’ experience of greeting new neighbors, for those aged 35-59, 32.3% of men and 22.2% of women did not greet their neighbors after moving to a new home, while higher proportion in the younger group aged 20-34 did not greet their neighbors. 63.5% of men and 44.3% of women of the respondents aged 20-34 did not greet their new neighbors.
Compared to older people, more young people considered it unnecessary to greet new neighbors when they move to a new place.
3. Important factors for choosing where to live and facilities desired near home
“Environment and location” was considered the most important in choosing a new home to move to. The second was “floor plan” and the third was “distance from station”.
For facilities desired around the new home, the most desired was “supermarket”, followed by “convenience store” and “financial institutions such as bank / post office”.

1. “Convenience” and “status symbol” considered important in determining preferred residential district
We interviewed residents living in the Greater Tokyo Area (including Tokyo, Saitama Prefecture, Chiba Prefecture and Kanagawa Prefecture) which railway station they want to live near the most. The most popular one was Kichijoji Station.
Main reasons for selecting Kichijoji was “trendy”, “convenient public transport” and “complete set of commercial facilities”.
“Convenient public transport” and “complete set of commercial facilities” were also popular reasons for other stations preferred by respondents.
In addition, “trendy” and “high-class image” were frequent reasons for respondents’ answers, indicating respondents consider residential area to be a reflection of their “status.”
2. Unwilling to go too far if moving
Respondents usually prefer living close to stations in the same prefecture as their current residence if they move.
In particular, top 5 stations chosen by Tokyo residents were all in Tokyo, while 4 out of the top 5 stations chosen by Chiba Prefecture residents were located in Chiba.
Rather than far-away places that they have less knowledge of, most people prefer moving to familiar locations.
3. Usage of real estate websites
